  • CHURCH PLANTING | Maranatha

Learn how our church is committed to planting gospel-centered churches that glorify God, serve communities, and make disciples of Jesus. CHURCH PLANTING WHY WE PLANT The reason Maranatha exists is to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ--and that is why we plant churches. Our cities and towns need the gospel, and the presence of gospel-proclaiming churches. As God as blessed us in our first eight years of being a church, he has also provided opportunities for his congregation to grow by stepping into more areas to tell more people about the good news of Jesus. WHY WE GO WHERE WE ARE PLANTING CANAL WINCHESTER We began meeting as Maranatha Canal Winchester in 2022. In the first 3 years, we have seen evidence of God’s grace as He has allowed us to steadily grow and begin to invest and work in the city of Canal Winchester. We are grateful for how he has prepared us to begin this work, and sustained us the first 3 years. Please keep praying for us and for God to continue to be at work in the city and surrounding area of Canal Winchester. ETNA/PATASKALA We are now looking at the Pataskala/Reynoldsburg area because our neighbors, like us, need a Savior. By God's grace, we want to bring a gospel-focused, Word-focused, and fellowship focused community to our surrounding areas. We want to help bring a clear gospel witness, deep Biblical teaching that opens the entirety of the scriptures up for the entirety of our lives, and a noticeable Christian community that shows the love, unity, and power of Christ to those around us. We want to help one another grow, that we would be ready to go and reach our world as we follow Jesus in His Kingdom work. Learn More - Newsletter Give to the Church Plant CORE VALUES DAVID APPELT God moved in David's heart to pursue local church ministry in 2012. As he and his wife were both serving in various roles in the church, God made it clear in 2018 that He had church planting in store for them. God brought them to join Maranatha and they began to experience what life in a church plant was like. David was installed as a pastor in 2020. A year later, Maranatha's eldership began to look ahead to a church plant. It was clear God had been preparing them to go and serve the community David grew up in, went to school in, lived in and loved. Maranatha Canal Winchester has continued to see God's faithfulness as they teach the Bible deeply and practice meaningful Christian community. DAN CASE Dan and Keela Case have been processing the calling to plant a church in the Etna/Pataskala area for the past 2 years. They have been at Maranatha since July of 2024 and have been affirmed by the Elders to plant a third Maranatha congregation sometime in 2026. They have been married for eight years and they are parents to two adopted daughters. Riley age 8 and Ari age 2. They are excited about the work the Lord has been doing during their time at Maranatha as Dan is completing his residency. They currently lead a community group and look forward to continuing to serve the body in various ways.

Upcoming Dates More Info Sign Up More Info Care Portal We partner with CarePortal, a ministry of the Global Orphan Project , to serve vulnerable families right here in our local community—including Pickerington and Canal Winchester. CarePortal is a platform that connects churches with real-time, local needs submitted by child welfare agencies and community organizations. These needs often come from families who are on the brink of crisis—such as a single mother in need of a bed to keep her child at home, or a grandparent needing assistance with utility bills while caring for grandchildren. When a request is submitted, it's shared with local churches who can choose to respond and meet the need. When someone from Maranatha responds to a physical need, we have the opportunity to deliver the item ourselves—creating a chance for personal connection and ministry. Ways You Can Get Involved: 1. Become a Responder Sign up to receive email notifications about current needs in our area. There are only a few requests each week, and there's no pressure to respond if you're unable. When you're able to help—whether by donating an item, giving financially, or referring someone who can—you simply click "I Can Help." If it’s a physical need, we’ll coordinate the details with you. 2. Become a Connector Help deliver donated items and build relationships with the families we serve. From time to time, we may need volunteers with a truck to help transport larger items. 3. Do Both! Many of our volunteers choose to serve as both Responders and Connectors, helping to meet needs and make meaningful connections in our community. • WHO WE ARE | Maranatha

Get to know our staff and leadership team. Discover our core values, beliefs, and the meaning behind our name. ABOUT US WHO WE ARE Maranatha’s purpose is to foster and develop gospel clarity, biblical depth, and a noticeable Christian community in the local areas God has placed us. We teach God’s Word faithfully and passionately. We pray fervently for His will to be done in and through our church. We expectantly share the gospel in hope. We desire that those who are lost will be saved and that those who are saved will be strengthened in faith by Jesus. We purposely care for all people—displaying the love of Christ and endeavoring to equip the whole church body to join in the mission of the kingdom. What we believe WHAT WE BELIEVE THE TRINITY. We believe that the true God is one, triune God, who reveals Himself as three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The three persons of the Godhead possess distinct attributes but do not mean any division of nature, essence, or being in God. GOD THE FATHER. We believe that God the Father reigns with providential care over His entire universe, according to the purposes of His grace. He is all-powerful, all-knowing, all-loving, and all-wise. GOD THE SON. We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, who was born of a virgin and is both fully God and fully man. He lived a sinless life, and His substitutionary death on the cross paid the penalty for sin. He was raised from the dead in bodily form, ascended into Heaven, and will return in power and judgment. GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT. We believe that the Holy Spirit is God’s presence within Christians. He convicts, cultivates, and comforts the believer and is the guarantee that God will bring the Christian into the fullness of Christ. THE BIBLE. We believe that the Scriptures are divinely inspired and are God’s revelation of Himself to man. The Bible is true and trustworthy, and sufficient to teach and instruct the believer. MAN. We believe that God created mankind in His image. He created them male and female to be equal in personhood, but distinct in role. All mankind has transgressed against God and is guilty of sin. SALVATION. We believe that salvation means the redemption of the believer and the restoration to relationship with God. Salvation is only by the grace of God, and through personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord. THE CHURCH. We believe that the Church is God’s vehicle to extend the gospel to the ends of the earth. Under the Lordship of Jesus Christ, the Church practices baptism and the Lord’s Supper. As members of local churches, believers are called to give of their time, talent and finances. END TIMES. We believe that God will bring the world to an end in His own time and in His own way. At that time, Jesus Christ will return to the earth to judge all mankind in righteousness. The righteous will exist with God in Heaven forever, while the unrighteous will spend eternity in Hell, separated from God. EVANGELISM. We believe that it is the duty and privilege of every follower of Christ to witness to the Gospel, in an effort to make disciples of all nations. In addition, some believers are called to the work of global missions--to take the Gospel to unreached people groups. FULL STATEMENT OF FAITH WHAT OUR NAME MEANS WHAT OUR NAME MEANS Maranatha is an Aramaic word that means, "Come, Lord." As the early church faced intense persecution, believers in Jesus Christ found comfort in the promise of Christ’s return. The greeting "Maranatha" became a common encouragement among Christians during times of hardship. The writer of the book of Hebrews refers to the Christian’s life on earth as an exile. As we endure the effects of a broken world we long for our heavenly home. We long for the end of suffering and sin. We long for Christ to return and establish his kingdom. We long to be united with God. Until that day, the cry, “Maranatha,” compels us to live urgently on mission, encouraging others to come to the Lord and find the joy, purpose, and life they long for. CORE VALUES CORE VALUES The core values that guide Maranatha Community Church are founded in Acts 2:42-47. Here we see the early church relentlessly worshiping God and devoting themselves to teaching, prayer, community, and service. We seek to uphold these values as guideposts, learning from the new covenant church, which is established by Christ. [42] “And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. [43] And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. [44] And all who believed were together and had all things in common. [45] And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. [46] And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, [47] praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.” [ACTS 2:42-47] WORSHIP The human heart was created for worship. We are constantly worshiping what we love most, but God is the only one worthy of our unending affection. Worshiping God means first knowing him and then honoring him in everything we do. As a church, we proclaim God to be our good portion and our greatest treasure, that he would be glorified and we would be satisfied in him. TEACHING Biblical teaching is meant to build up and protect the church in order that everyone may be presented as mature in Christ. As a church, we submit ourselves to the teaching of the Word, believing that “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17). PRAYER God has called us to pray. Through our prayers we demonstrate our dependence on God, our trust in God, and our worship of God as the all-sustaining and satisfying creator of the universe. Through Jesus Christ, we are able to come to God in prayer with full assurance that he hears us and will work for the good of those who love him. COMMUNITY We are designed to carry out our faith within the community of the church. If you have been saved by the gospel of Jesus Christ, you have been saved into the people of God. Within community, believers are equipped for ministry and spurred on toward love and good deeds. We bear one another’s burdens and encourage one another toward maturity in Christ. It is through our love for one another that individuals will know that we are his disciples. SERVICE As believers we emulate the servant-heart of Christ, not because God needs anything from us but that our heart might be set on that which is eternal and that our hope might be set on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. We serve by practicing sacrificial love toward our neighbor, the stranger, the widow, the hungry, the sick, the imprisoned, etc. Through our serving, we testify to God’s sufficiency and abundant grace in our lives. • BUILDING PROJECT | Maranatha

Discover the heart behind our building project as we share our journey, purpose, and vision. Find ways to get involved with what God is doing in and through Maranatha. OUR BUILDING PROJECT With an estimated population of 25,921 in 2024, the Pickerington community has grown in size by over 13% since we officially launched in the area. This makes Pickerington one of the fastest-growing areas in Ohio. Due to the growth of our city and the multiplication of our church body, we see much benefit in continuing to pursue a new building space. DOWNLOAD PROSPECTUS A LETTER FROM OUR PASTOR It is with great joy and excitement that I share with you that the population surrounding Maranatha—both in Pickerington and in Canal Winchester—is growing quickly. Therefore, we must not only focus on how well we are caring for one another at Maranatha but also on how we can minister to the new people who are joining our communities. One of the ways to work towards accomplishing this is to continue our pursuit of a new building in Pickerington. We know that this would not be the only way forward, but pursuing a larger facility and gathering space is what the Lord has continued to make clear to us. It’s been exhilarating for us as a church to follow the Lord as He advances this movement. Not only will this space provide more room for the church in Pickerington to gather as one body on Sundays, but this project will also allow us to more effectively train ministry leaders, raise up additional church planters, and creatively serve our community. We hope that the people of Maranatha, as well as individuals, churches, companies, and business owners, would be willing to invest in this project financially, in prayer, and in helping us spread the word to others who may desire to come alongside what God is doing in our community for His glory. I want to thank you for taking the time to learn about our vision for Maranatha’s future. Our prayer is that this building will stand as a testimony to the holiness of God and be a sanctuary that represents Christ to our community for generations to come. OUR VISION The biblical word Maranatha means, “Come, Lord.” We chose this to be our name because it continually centers our attention on our returning King Jesus while we pursue the coming of his kingdom here on earth. TIMELINE ATTENDANCE GROWTH CHART Our church desires to be hospitable to the people who come through our doors every week. Currently, we have exceeded our building’s capacity three times over. The only growth options available to us are adding additional gatherings or pursuing a larger building space. Additional gatherings put a continued strain on Maranatha’s community and culture. For this reason, we are pursuing this building project as a means of meeting the developing needs of our entire church body. With a bigger space, we will be able to creatively serve our community through more outreach opportunities. This will assist our goal of supporting external ministries and community needs. Some examples of this include a beautiful facility to host weddings and funerals, gym and field space to be used for community events, and additional classrooms that could serve home-school co-ops. This space will allow us to more effectively train ministry leaders within Maranatha and assist other churches in equipping leaders. We will be able to develop a learning environment to raise up church planters and planting teams to be sent out with greater stability. Our Canal Winchester congregation will be able to leverage this asset for their future facility needs. Ultimately, we see this building as an opportunity to help us answer the call to equip the saints for the work of ministry. DESIGNED WITH A PURPOSE The reason Maranatha has chosen a more traditional building design is that we desire to create a monument for the Lord that will always display His holiness. We hope to create a space that is both functional and beautiful so that both vibrant worship and fruitful ministry can flourish. Our hope is that this structure would serve our current church body and that it would stand as a witness of truth for generations to come. We desire to create a building that will always be recognized as a church. If for some unforeseen reason this building became inhabited by an organization that is not a church, it will always look like a place where Jesus Christ was worshiped. If that were to happen, our hope would be that eventually another gospel-centered church would be moved to re-acquire this place and recommission it as a proper place for worship of our Creator God. WHAT IT WILL TAKE Our current Pickerington building is worth an estimated $1 million. The land for our future building site has nearly doubled in value since we closed in April 2023. The estimated total for phase one building is $4.9 million. Phase two is anticipated to be $4.5 million due to estimated reconstruction and inflation. THE GOAL We plan to fundraise $3 million of the $5 million needed for phase one through the giving of our members, visitors, and outside supporters. The graphic shows the type and number of gifts we need to accomplish this goal. Along with raising the funds mentioned, we are prepared to leverage our current building and take on a $2 million mortgage for the new building. These steps will allow us to complete phase one while also preventing us from going over our set 25% budget threshold. Under our current budget we make monthly payments of $19,000 toward our property-related expenses. This includes the $1,500 mortgage on our current building and a $6,500 a month payment for the land we will build on. The additional $11,000 a month we put toward the land loan as a way to aggressively pay it off in five years. PRAY Will you join us in fervently praying for Maranatha as we follow the mission and vision God has given us? Specific things to pray for: Wisdom and clarity in each step that we take towards our hopeful future. Our church to creatively raise our financial giving and support for this project. The Lord to bring forward businesses, organizations, and other churches to assist us in reaching this goal. Opportunities for our church to reach our primary fundraising goal of $3 million. GIVE Though we don't currently have a formal fundraising campaign, the people of Maranatha have already generously contributed $200,000 in financial support for this project. Our hope is that you would also consider financially partnering with us as we prayerfully follow where God is leading us. • WOMEN'S DISCIPLESHIP COHORT | Maranatha

The Women's Discipleship Cohort seeks to grow the women of Maranatha in their Bible reading skills as well as focused time on spiritual disciplines like prayer, Scripture memory, meditation and rest. Women's Discipleship Cohort The Women’s Discipleship Cohort is focused on equipping and training the women of our church to both grow in spiritual maturity and to use the gifts God has given each of us to do the work of ministry among both believers and unbelievers. Every year, the WDC provides an opportunity for the women of Maranatha to participate in a Bible study together. These studies are aimed at growing Bible reading skills, developing consistency in spiritual disciplines, and building community. Over the past six years, our women have studied Genesis, Exodus, and Hebrews. Stay tuned for our next Bible study starting in January 2026! In addition to our yearly Bible study, the WDC meets a few times a year for workshops on specific topics. During these workshops, we have covered topics such as teaching the Word, discipleship, evangelism, sabbath, lament., and repentance with God and others. These mornings are aimed at providing our women with teaching and practical skills to grow in godly disciplines. QUESTIONS?
