- COMPASSION MINISTRY | Maranatha Community Church
FIND OUT MORE COMPASSION MINISTRY Our Compassion Ministry was created out of a belief that Jesus has directly called his followers to love and care for individuals in need. The Compassion Ministry seeks to provide ongoing outreach opportunities for the people of Maranatha to participate in so that they can be the hands and feet of Jesus to these individuals. Through this ministry, we are given opportunities as the body to step out in faith into uncomfortable spaces and be obedient to Christ's commands. MONTHLY OUTREACHES Each month, we extend care and support to individuals in need throughout the Central Ohio area by serving meals and distributing essential items, including hygiene kits, food bags, and necessities such as socks. Donations are accepted year-round to support these efforts. FIND UPCOMING DATES SHOP WISH LIST DONATION LIST FOUNDATION DINNERS On the third Saturday of every other month, we serve at a local soup kitchen in Lancaster from 3:30 to 5:00 PM. During this time, we provide a warm meal and fellowship to those in need. For this event we need four volunteers to assist with setup and meal service. If you are interested in serving, please reach out directly to our Compassion Ministry leaders by clicking the sign up button below. FIND UPCOMING DATES MORE INFO SOUTHSIDE BLESSING BOX Maranatha Southside is passionate about serving and loving their local community in tangible ways. One simple way we do this is through our Blessing Box—a resource available to anyone in need. We invite you to join us in keeping it stocked. While there’s no specific list, we are always collecting non-perishable food items such as soups, spaghetti, pasta sauce, cup noodles, individual mac and cheese, canned vegetables, tuna, canned chicken, and similar items. Items can be dropped off at any church location in the Compassion Donation bins. T his is a small act that can make a meaningful difference. As we give, we reflect the generosity of Christ and care for our neighbors right here in Southside. QUESTIONS? CARE PORTAL We partner with CarePortal, a ministry of the Global Orphan Project , to serve vulnerable families right here in our local community—including Pickerington and Canal Winchester. CarePortal is a platform that connects churches with real-time, local needs submitted by child welfare agencies and community organizations. These needs often come from families who are on the brink of crisis—such as a single mother in need of a bed to keep her child at home, or a grandparent needing assistance with utility bills while caring for grandchildren. When a request is submitted, it's shared with local churches who can choose to respond and meet the need. When someone from Maranatha responds to a physical need, we have the opportunity to deliver the item ourselves—creating a chance for personal connection and ministry. Ways You Can Get Involved: 1. Become a Responder Sign up to receive email notifications about current needs in our area. There are only a few requests each week, and there's no pressure to respond if you're unable. When you're able to help—whether by donating an item, giving financially, or referring someone who can—you simply click "I Can Help." If it’s a physical need, we’ll coordinate the details with you. 2. Become a Connector Help deliver donated items and build relationships with the families we serve. From time to time, we may need volunteers with a truck to help transport larger items. 3. Do Both! Many of our volunteers choose to serve as both Responders and Connectors, helping to meet needs and make meaningful connections in our community. Maranatha's purpose is to foster and develop gospel clarity, biblical depth, and a noticeable Christian community in the local areas God has placed us. The biblical word Maranatha, means "Come, Lord." We chose this to be our name because it continually centers our attention on our returning King Jesus while we pursue the coming of his kingdom here on earth. NEW HERE? The purpose of our gathering together is that God would be glorified and the body would be edified through the preaching of the Word. Our Sunday Gatherings follow a liturgical order, in which we seek to worship God through confession, adoration, hearing the Word of God preached, and committing ourselves to the mission of God. It is our hope that the structure of our Sunday Gatherings would lead you to experience the gospel mercies of Christ and worship of God abundantly. What should I wear? Our gatherings are casual and you should feel free to come as you are, whether you prefer jeans and t-shirt or a tie and jacket. Is there a kids ministry? Yes! We are currently offering three classes at all of our gatherings. Toddlers: 1 year old to Pre-K Bible Stories: Pre-K through 2nd Grade Bible Studies: 3rd Grade through 7th Grade We value family integrated worship at Maranatha, for this reason, our children remain in our main gathering space with their families until after the first set of songs. Kids are dismissed to their classrooms during the passing of the peace. When you arrive, you’re welcome to check your child/children in at our Kids Check-In area. Maranatha Kids will study the Bible and see the gospel of Jesus Christ revealed throughout all of scripture with age appropriate weekly Bible lessons, activities, and crafts. If you or your child have accessibility or special needs, please contact us (https://maranathaohio.churchcenter.com/people/forms/121189)so we can connect with you and explore how our team can best provide support. Parking for guests, families with small children, and those needing special assistance is available behind the church building. Additional parking is available in the two lots across the street. Street parking is also available on the side of the street near the building. On Sunday mornings, parking attendants are stationed near the back lot as well as the lots across the street. These individuals are here to assist you in finding parking and crossing Columbus Street safely. What accessibility accommodations are available at your locations? In Pickerington there is a wheelchair ramp located on the east side of the building that can be accessed from the rear parking lot. In Canal Winchester the wheelchair ramp is located on the east side of the building. We offer sensory bags to help children with special needs feel supported, engaged, and comfortable during our gatherings. At our Canal Winchester gathering, an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter is available during our gathering to help ensure that our Deaf and hard-of-hearing guests can fully participate in worship and teaching.
